The Forestry Commission/Tullow REDD+ Programme (FTREDD+) is a landmark public-private partnership between Ghana’s Forestry Commission and Tullow Oil, aimed at combating deforestation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the Bono and Bono East regions.
Spanning approximately 2 million hectares across 14 priority districts, FTREDD+ focuses on conserving and restoring forests to generate up to 1 million tonnes of certified carbon credits annually.
These efforts support Tullow’s 2030 Net Zero ambitions and align with Ghana’s National REDD+ Strategy, while also enhancing sustainable livelihoods and forest governance for over 1 million local residents.
As a partner in FTREDD+ we are supplying 200,000 high-quality seedlings to reafforest degraded forest reserves in the Bono and Bono East regions to help bring Ghana’s climate and restoration goals to life— improving biodiversity, enhancing soil fertility, and boosting carbon capture.
But we don’t stop at seedlings supply —we connect reforestation to livelihoods. By linking restoration efforts to climate-smart agriculture, value chains, and market access, we ensure that communities benefit not just ecologically, but economically. Restoration becomes more than a goal—it becomes a way of life.
The impact is clear: degraded lands are coming back to life, communities are growing stronger, and a new generation of climate champions is emerging—led by women, youth, and local leaders.
The success of FTREDD+ is made possible through a collaboration of diverse stakeholders who are united in their commitment to restoring Ghana’s forest landscapes and mitigating climate change:
• Forestry Commission of Ghana
• Tullow Oil
• Local District Assemblies
• Traditional Authorities
